Chemical Peel Canton Additional Info

The word “chemical” may sound intimidating at first glance. Once you take a closer peak into what all chemical peels are, however, these treatments can give you just the results that you have been looking for!

Chemical peels are one of the most popular and effective cosmetic procedures on the market. These peels can give your skin a healthy, rejuvenated look all the way to being more aggressive, unveiling younger looking skin. Each peel that we carry here at Allure Aesthetic Center is slightly different, and the exact formula will depend on the intensity level of the treatment. The chemical peels that we perform at Allure include:

  • Lactic: extra gentle and good for even the most sensitive skin. This gives a quick “pick me up” to the skin resulting in a fresh glowing appearance
  • Glycolic: gentle and derived from sugar. This peel helps to remove the top layer of skin, revealing the fresh new layer that lies underneath. Adds a fresh glow to the skin.
  • Salicylic: fairly gentle and good for diminishing the look of whiteheads, blackheads and making the skin look more even toned.
  • Mandelic: fairly gentle and derived from bitter almonds. Mostly suited to be used for acne. This peel promotes collagen production, which is the main protein found in the skin’s connective tissue.
  • Jessner: typically a medium to deep peel. This is a combination of lactic, salicylic and resorcinol. This peel is effective in reducing the appearance of scars and pigmentation.
  • The Perfect 10 Peel: the most complex of all the peels we perform at Allure. The Perfect 10 Peel contains glutathione (a very potent peptide) as its main ingredient. It also has a blend of other acids, powerful antioxidants and peptides such as: trichloroacetic acid (TCA), salicylic acid, retinoic acid, kojic acid, vitamin c and phenol. All the ingredients work to improve your overall complexion.

As chemical peels are an excellent choice when it comes to rejuvenating the skin, it is always helpful to understand what exactly makes this procedure so effective. The skin is the largest organ on the body, acting as a barrier from toxins and other harmful environmental factors. The outermost layer of the skin, or the epidermis, is comprised of multiple cells that are fastened together. These cells also have a protective cellular barrier that acts as a type of glue to further keep these cells connected. The epidermis has multiple layers, with the outermost layers being comprised of mostly dead skin cells.

Chemical peels work to dissolve this glue that keep these cells locked, allowing the most outer layer of dead skin to exfoliate off. This is considered a chemical exfoliant versus a microdermabrasion which is more of a physical exfoliant. Both chemical peels and microdermabrasion’s are excellent for exfoliating the skin, revealing younger and healthier looking skin. These procedures also allow any products that are then introduced to the skin to penetrate deeper, making your products more potent.

Choosing the best chemical peel to give the desired results of each client depends on a few certain factors. Concentration and ingredients will be the main deciding factor. Another factor will be the area the client is wanting treated as different areas of the body have different skin thickness. Here at Allure Aesthetic Center, all of our medical estheticians are versed on all the different peels out there and will make sure to choose the best one for your concerns.

Wether you receive a superficial very mild peel, any type of skin exfoliation will make you more susceptible to the sun. Make sure to wear an SPF of at least 50 to protect your skin from the harsh rays.

While not all chemical peels result in visible peeling, you can expect to see some visible peeling with more aggressive peels, such as a Jessner or the Allure Aesthetic Center’s Perfect 10 Peel. If you do see that your skin is starting to peel, do not try to pull or remove the skin. This can result in exposing layers of the skin that are not yet ready to be exposed. Applying a gentle moisturizer, like the Allure Aesthetic Center Sheer Antioxidant Moisturizer, is a simple and effective way to keep the skin moisturized during the healing process. Make sure to use only gentle cleansers and hydrating products as the skin is very vulnerable during this time. A great cleanser to use is Allure’s Antioxidant Soothing Cleanser.  Make sure to wear a high, broad-spectrum SPF to protect your new fresh skin from harsh sun rays. Allure also has a wonderful tinted sunscreen called the Sun Your provider will make sure to go over all of the post-care procedures in office with you as well.

Each client has their own specific reasons when it comes to choosing a chemical peel for their skin concerns, whether that be a simple exfoliation or a more invasive treatment to correct damage or other medical concerns. When it comes to goals for chemical peels, there is a little bit of a misconception and it is important to understand the realistic goals that a chemical peel can achieve for your skin.

Realistic Goals

  • Correct sun damage
  • Reduce mild scarring
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Improves dark spots and pigmentation issues
  • Removes stubborn clogged pores removing debris
  • Temporarily reduces excessive oil production

It is important to understand your skin goals as well as have a knowledgeable professional evaluate your specific concerns. When it comes to chemical peels it is very important to have a professional who understand the risks and properties of the peel. Keep in mind, though chemical peels are an effective and quick way to resolve many skin issues, they are a controlled chemical burn on the skin. Always make sure your provider is licensed and experienced in skin types and colors along with chemical peels and their ingredients.

The main ingredients you can find in chemical peels either alone or in conjunction with other chemicals are:

  1. Glycolic Acid
  2. Salicylic Acid
  3. Lactic Acid
  4. Resorcinol
  5. Jessner (a combination of salicylic, resorcinol and lactic acid mixed in ethanol – or alcohol)
  6. Trichloroacetic Acid

Physical peeling is not always the result of a chemical peel, however it is very common especially with deeper chemical peels. The four levels of peeling are very superficial, superficial, medium, and deep.

Very superficial peels is more of an exfoliation than it is an actual chemical peel. The most superficial layers or the skin is removed or thinned during this exfoliation. Very superficial peeling results in a glowing “refreshed” look to the skin and is great for some extra exfoliation.

Superficial peels remove the skin through a portion of the epidermis, or the outer most layer of skin. These are considered “refreshing” chemical peels as the help reduce the appearance of mild skin discoloration, moderate acne discoloration, as well as helps to de-clog and remove debris from pores.

Medium peels are much more medical and come with more risks and complications due to the fact that these peels allow the acid to penetrate through the epidermis all the way down into the upper most portion of the dermis. It is essential to make sure that your provider is a trained professional and understands the chemical properties of these peels as they can have more side effects. These peels are wonderful to help correct more medical issues when it comes to skin concerns.

Deep peels go all the way through the epidermis and into the deepest portion of the dermis. These peels are not a simple procedure and require expertise. These types of peels are normally done under anesthetics and should be performed in a sterile environment. These peels are done under the advisory of a medical physician. Currently, Allure Aesthetic Center does not offer these types of peels.
