Everything There is to Know About Latisse®
For the most part, genetics determines how our eyelashes appear: long or short, light or dark. As we age, we also experience a thinning of the eyelash hairs as eyelash follicles tend to slow and stop growth.
Latisse was the first of its kind when it comes to enhancing your lashes, and it is the first and only prescription treatment approved by the FDA for inadequate or sparse eyelashes. With Latisse®, lashes grow longer, fuller and darker. Backed by the global leader in pharmaceuticals, Allergan manufactures and produces Latisse®. When used as directed, Latisse® results in the growth of new lashes that are darker, thicker, and longer than your normal lashes. Over 5 millions Latisse® kits have been sold since 2009, so let’s find out why!
In a clinical study, those who used Latisse® experienced:
- 106% increase in lash thickness/fullness
- 25% increase in lash length
- 18% increase in lash pigmentation
Latisse® is super simple to use. In each kit you receive either a 3mL or a 5mL bottle of Latisse® (prices vary) solution, along with a special applicator for each eye. To apply the solution, dispense a single drop of solution to the applicator and gentle slide along the base of the upper lashes. If you happen to get any of the solution into your eye do not worry, Latisse® is completely safe! Just simply blot away any excess solution.
- 5mL kit = @ 10 weeks of Latisse® application (better deal)

FAQ Regarding Latisse®
- Will Latisse® change my eye color?
Myth busters here – no! Latisse® will not change the color of your eye, no matter what eye color you may have. Allergan, along with individual physicians, have clinically trialed Bimatoprost (Latisse®) who closely monitored all patients. There have been no documented cases of iris color change have ever been reported when using Latisse® as prescribed. For those of you who do not know, Bimatoprost has been used as a medication to treat glaucoma for many years. The eye-lash enhancing effects were only discovered accidentally once these patients kept reporting that their eyelashes were not only growing but also appearing much darker. The only cases in which patients experienced iris color variations were those who had been using Bimatoprost as a glaucoma medication, dropped directly into the eye, for multiple years. As mentioned previously, Latisse® is only to be used at the base of the lashes.
- Do you sell the real Latisse? ®
Latisse® is manufactured through the company Allergan. We only obtain our Latisse® through Allergan, providing you with authentic, FDA-approved Latisse® to our patients safely, legally, and conveniently. You will receive a factory-sealed kit with an expiration date and a lot number.
- Can Latisse® be used with contacts?
Latisse® is safe to use if you use contacts, however you should always take them out prior to applying the medication. After about 15 minutes, the medication will have soaked into the skin and inserting your contacts will be completely safe.
- How does Latisse® differ from all the other lash growth serums out there?
Latisse® is the first and only FDA approved product that makes lashes grow longer, fuller, and darker. Other lash products, currently, do not have any research studies showing the affect of actual lash length growth. As mentioned previously, none of these products are approved by the FDA.
- Can Latisse® help grow my eyebrow hair, too?
Yes, Latisse® can be used to grow your eyebrow hair. It is important to mention, however, that the only clearance by the FDA for Latisse® is for eye lash growth. Though eyebrow usage is off-label, it is completely safe and very common for Latisse® to be used on the eyebrow area. Some physicians even recommend trying Latisse® application to balding areas to help assist in hair growth. This, along with application of Latisse® for the brows, is safe and common usage of the product. It is important to note, however, that Latisse® is not a medication used to treat alopecia.
How to Use Latisse®
Latisse® is a medicinal liquid to help make eyelashes appear longer, ticker, and darker. Each Latisse® kit contains detailed instructions for proper application as well. Prior to applying the solution, remove all makeup and make sure to cleanse your face. The area needs to be clean and dry prior to application. Make sure to remove contact lenses if you wear them. Apply one drop of the Latisse® liquid to the applicator brush provided in your kit. You will receive one applicator brush for each eye, two total. You only need one drop of the Latisse® solution on the brush to properly coat each eye. When applying the solution to the eyelashes, make sure you apply at the base of the lash where the hair meets the skin. Be careful as to not get the solution into your eye or lower lash line, as unwanted hair growth may occur. The same steps are taken on the other eye with a new, clean applicator brush to prevent cross-contamination. Make sure as to not touch the tip of the Latisse® bottle or applicators. It is important to keep the bottle and the applicators clean prior to each application as to prevent infections known to be caused by household bacteria. Having the lid on the bottle and keeping the applicators in their packaging until ready to apply the solution will help avoid any cross contamination. After application, if any excess liquid resides on the eye you can blot it away, gently, with a clean tissue. For the best results, Latisse® should be used once a day for 16 weeks for beginners. Applying Latisse® more than once a day will not grow your lashes any faster or improve the effectiveness of the medication. Continuous use of Latisse® is required to keep your lashes looking longer, darker, and thicker.
It is important to note that, in the beginning, you should apply Latisse® every night for at least 16 weeks (3 months) in order to get the desired results of longer, darker, thicker lashes (though many clients see results much sooner that 16 weeks). After the initial 3 months, usage can be reduced to every other night, or even up to 3 days in between usage. Of course, each patient is different, and usage may be different for each person. After the first 16 weeks, find an application regimen that works best for you and your lashes to keep them looking longer, fuller, and darker.
What happens if I stop using Latisse®?
Just as it takes time for your lashes to grow longer and thicker, it takes time for your lashes to return to how they looked prior to starting your Latisse® regimen. If stopping Latisse® is something you would like to do, lashes will gradually return to their previous appearance over the course of several weeks, up to a couple of months.
Is Latisse® safe for everyone?
If you are allergic to any of the ingredients listed on the kit, do not use Latisse®. For those who have an allergy to Bimatoprost or any of the other ingredients in Latisse® refrain from use. If you are under care for Glaucoma, advise your Ophthalmologist that you are using Latisse®. If you are currently using medication for eye pressure problems, or have eye pressure problems, consult with your physician prior to using Latisse®. Anyone with known or suspected active eye disease or anyone at risk of developing ye disorders should always consult with a physician prior to starting Latisse® for lash enhancement.
What are, if any, the potential side effects when using Latisse®?
Because Latisse® was created as an ophthalmic solution, it is not expected to cause any harm if any solution does happen to get in to your eye. There is no need to rinse or wash out your eye if some solution does get in to the eye. The most common side effect that was mentioned in clinical studies was a mild tingling or itching sensation, along with mild reddening of the skin at the application site. Only 4% of all research participants experienced these mild side effects, however. It is also important to note that there has not, and most likely never will be, tests done on those who are pregnant, may become pregnant, or breast feeding. It is always advised to not try new medications while pregnant, when trying to become pregnant, and while breast feeding.
Helpful tricks when applying Latisse®
- Place one drop of Latisse® solution into the cap, then place your disposable brush into the cap of liquid. This helps as to not waste any of the solution, as dropping the liquid on to the brush may result in loss of some solution.
