What is Botox?
Botox is a treatment that helps to diminish and eliminate lines and wrinkles on the face and neck. Specifically, Botox injections are effective at reducing muscle movement on the forehead, lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines), and creases around the eyes, nose, and mouth. This results in smoother skin and a renewed youthful appearance.
If you’re looking to reduce your signs of aging, Botox might be the solution you need.
What Does Botox Do?
Botox helps to eliminate and diminish creases, lines, and wrinkles on the face. It offers several benefits, including:
- Provides a younger appearance
- Removes years from your face
- Smoothes creases and wrinkles
- Improves confidence about your appearance
How Does Botox Work?
Botox works because of the ingredient Botulinum Toxin. When injected into the creases and wrinkles on your face and/or neck, the muscles in these areas automatically relax. The result is smooth skin, free of wrinkles.
Specifically, Botox is a neurotoxin, which means that when injected it directly targets the nervous system (hence why the muscles temporarily relax).
What Is Botox Used For?
Botox is used for both cosmetic uses and medical uses.
- Forehead lines
- Crow’s feet (creases around the eyes)
- Lines around the mouth
- Neck lines
- Glabellar lines
- Cervical dystonia (neck muscles contracting)
- Lazy eye
- Muscle contractures
- Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)
- Chronic migraine
- Bladder dysfunction
- Uncontrollable eye twitching
What Is Botox Made Of?
Botox consists of botulinum toxin, which is produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. Small doses of this ingredient help muscles to relax and therefore reduce the appearance of wrinkles. It is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for a variety of health concerns.

What You Can Expect From Botox
During your consultation, your Allure Aesthetic Center practitioner will examine your skin, ask about your health history, and answer any questions you might have regarding the Botox injections. They will also cover any potential risks associated with the treatment and let you know if there are any specific medications you should avoid prior to the injections.
Your practitioner will inject the Botox into the necessary areas on the face and/or neck. This typically takes anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes and ends with minimal to no discomfort. Most patients return to work or daily activities immediately following treatment:
You should notice the results of your Botox injections within 2 weeks following treatment. You might experience some slight tenderness at the injection site, however, this should only last up to 2 days. More serious side effects include allergic reactions, itching, fatigue, and swelling, but these tend to be rare. We recommend that you avoid strenuous activity until the next day following the injections.
Many patients choose to receive Botox injections every 3 to 4 months.
